This comprehensive guide to the Party Poker Million contains all the important information you need to know. Details of this premier World Poker Tour event include details on how to qualify, history and all the relevant facts about the tournament itself.

Party Poker Million – Summary and History

The Party Poker Million (PPM) is a live poker tournament with a difference – it is held on a cruise ship! Locations have included the Caribbean Islands and Mediterranean sea in southern Europe. The PPM will enter its sixth year in 2008. In its brief history this event has already seen some significant changes including becoming part of the World Poker Tour televised schedule and significant growth in field sizes.

Originally held as a fixed-limit Holdem tournament, the PPM has more recently changed over to the more popular no-limit Holdem format. The buy-in for the 2008 event is $8,200. This cruise will take place from the 3rd to the 10th of May and sail to several locations in Italy, Croatia, Greece and Turkey.

With the crème of the worlds poker professionals involved, previous PPM cruises have been won by some big names – both Erick Lindgren and Howard Lederer scoping $1 Million prizes on previous voyages. The large number of opportunities for online qualification have also lead to some great showings for amateurs – with several online qualifiers reaching final tables (and the associated 6-figure payouts).

Party Poker Million – How To Qualify Online

Packages worth $12,000 which include your PPM entry fee, cruise accommodation and spending money can be won at Partypoker.com right now. There are several qualifying options which start at just $1. These include the standard satellites, PPM Steps and special ‘Gateway’ tournaments.

The standard structure is set up so that a series of satellites feed into the weekly direct qualifier, a $640 entry tournament which awards PPM packages based on the number of entries. For players with smaller bankrolls there are sub-satellites for $1, $3, $8 and $10 which award seats in a $70 feeder tournament to the weekly package satellites.

PPM steps are single table tournaments. The idea is that the first 2 placed finishers move up to the next level – while 3rd and 4th place get to ‘try again’ at the same level. The steps start from a $10 entry and end in a special ‘Step 5’ Multi-Table tournament where 1 in 10 players will receive a package.

Gateway tournaments are billed as an ‘action packed alternative’, starting at $15 these multi-table tournaments go through three stages, culminating in a $1250 tournament awarding packages to 10% of the field.
