History & Overview

The Cake Network is owned and operated by parent company Cake Gaming NV and is one of the 10 largest poker networks. Launched in 2006, the Cake Network currently has 35 “network skins” (poker rooms and casinos) under its belt. Some of the big hitters on the Cake Network include Doyle’s room, Sportsbook.com, BetUS, Victory Poker, and many others that only non-US players might recognize.

With all of the poker rooms and casinos on the Cake Network, you’d think they would have a Mac version for their software, but no. What Cake Poker does have; however, is plenty of soft competition and an ever-expanding player base. Put simply, Cake Poker is one of the best lesser-known poker rooms.

Promotions are another one of Cake Poker’s strong suits. By following Cake on Twitter you’ll have exclusive access to promotions, freerolls and other goodies. Cake is a perfect poker room for casual and amateur players, although during non-peak hours, player traffic can be quite low. If you are a well-read amateur, Cake is a great place to prey upon fish swimming to close to the surface.

Deposit & Cashout Methods for US Players

Cake Poker has a ridiculous amount of deposit options, which is good for U.S. players because those doors continue to be closed. Cake caters to international players as well. Whether you are from Europe or Singapore, Cake’s deposit options span the globe.

Cashout methods are not as numerous, of course. Direct Bank Transfer is usually your best option for a smooth and quick withdrawal.

Software and graphics

Cake Poker has the standard lobby setup, which is nice because everything is laid out intuitively. Simply select “Ring Games” or “Tournaments” at the top of the lobby, click the type of ring game or tournament in the buttons below and then click on any game room in the subsequent list.

The graphics are nice and you can choose from a number of different 3D player avatars—from a “Unabomber” Phil Laak lookalike to some guy who looks like filmmaker Kevin Smith to another who looks like a heavy metal rocker. If you don’t like the avatars you can choose a simpler top-down table.

The game info, states, notes and chat reside in the industry-standard bottom-left corner. Speaking of standard features, all of them are here, like fully customizable tables, auto-rebuy, re-sizable game tables, hand histories, etc. I like that the Cashier opens within the lobby, rather than opening up in a new browser window.

Competition

Most medium- to high-traffic poker rooms feature soft competition at the lower levels, but Cake poker, well, takes the cake. You won’t have to worry about any in-house pros or many sharks. If you’re a good amateur player, your best bet is to stick to the low- to medium-level limits and play tight-aggressive poker. Also, if you like to play mixed games, you should avoid Cake Poker.

Tournaments and Freerolls

Cake has guaranteed tournaments, satellites to live events, bounties, freerolls, turbos and Gold Chip tournaments. Since Cake poker is still building a player-base, guaranteed tournaments aren’t as big as other high-traffic rooms yet. They have a $15,000 and $25,000 Guaranteed every Sunday. They also have a daily $800 PLO Hi/LO R&A (re-buy and add-on) every day, as well as an Omaha $888 Guaranteed. $3,000 Guaranteed tournaments run three times per day.

Want to start from scratch or just earn extra cash with no investment? Cake offers new depositors to take part in a $500 freeroll every Saturday at 2 PM ET. You can also earn your way to the weekly Saturday $1,000 freeroll via a satellite.

Turbo tournaments are based on a 6-minute blind structure versus the non-turbo 10-minute. You can also take part in “Gold Chip Lover” SnG events, which use Gold Chips as buy-ins and a reward of more Gold Chips or cash.

Loyalty Program

Cake Poker has an awesome loyalty/rewards program that uses Gold Cards, Gold Chips and Gold Stacks.

Cake Poker has a “Gold Chip Meter” that increases as you earn Frequent Player Points (FPPs). FPPs turn into Gold Chips at a descending rate, so after earning your first Gold Chip you’ll need fewer FPPs to earn your next. Unfortunately, the rate is reset after each month.

After you reach a certain number of Gold Chips, your chips will automatically be turned into a Gold Stack. Every time you complete a Gold Stack, you win a prize. There are 50 Gold Stack levels, with every subsequent level earning more cash.

Gold Cards can be earned at any level of a real money ring game, even if you fold. Gold Cards can be exchanged for tournaments, cash and other prizes.

Customer support

Cake Poker takes customer support seriously. They have a friendly staff available 24/7 to answer questions. With the bigger poker rooms, your questions are answered within 48 hours. At Cake Poker, they “strive to ensure all inquiries are answered within 20 minutes.” Impressive, although a live chat option would be nice.
